What is Adagen?
Adagen is a transformed enzyme used for enzyme replacement therapy to treat severe combined immunodeficiency disease (SCID) related to a deficiency of adenosine deaminase.

It is a human-made enzyme known as adenosine deaminase (ADA). Adenosine deaminase prevents the buildup of specific proteins harmful to white blood cells and helps the body fight infections.

Before using this medicine, be sure that it is right for you; talk with your therapist if you have easy bruising or bleeding.
Consult with your therapist if you are pregnant because it is unknown yet that Adagen is harmful to an unborn baby or not.
It is unknown yet that this medicine passes into breast milk or not or what kind of effects it can have on newborns. So before taking this medicine, consult with doctors if you are breastfeeding your baby.
Adagen therapy of the patient continued till the improvement in immune function is not recorded. During this treatment, doctors continuously monitor the patient and its effect on the patient’s body.
Do not take other medicines with Adagen without consulting your doctor. Other drugs may interact with this medicine and become fatal for your medical health.
Do not stop taking this medication without completing the duration of the treatment. If you stop taking this medication without completing the period, the symptoms may come again, and this time it may be possible that this medicine may not be helpful in your treatment.
Patients having Adagen therapy not yet register any complaint regarding hypersensitivity reactions. Your doctor may suggest some medical tests. Please follow all the directions of your doctor while you are under the therapy of Adagen.
How to take Adagen?
To confirm that you get the most favorable outcome from this medication, your doctor may occasionally change your dosage. Use this medicine precisely the same as you prescribed. Do not increase or reduce this medicine dosage and do not use it longer than your prescription.
This medication is injected directly into your muscles, so do not inject it by urself if you are not aware of using this injection and dispose of the used syringes and needles.
Usually, doctors prescribe this medicine to inject once every seven days into muscles. Your doctor may still prescribe you according to your medical condition, so follow all the dosing directions very carefully.
Use the syringes and needles once, and after using them, dispose of them. Follow all the local or state laws about disposing of used syringes and needles. Put the used hands and syringes into a sharp and puncture-proof disposal container and keep this container away from the children’s reach.
Each bottle of Adagen is just for single use only; throw the bottle away after use.
Do not take this medicine if it changes its color or has particles in it. Please talk with your pharmacist and ask them for a new drug.
During Adagen treatment, your doctor may often call you for your blood test. So frequently test your blood while you are using this medicine.
It may take six months to improve your immune system and reduce the infection. Continue to use this medication according to your doctor’s prescription. You can take this medicine until your symptoms are not get improved.
Talk with your therapist if your symptoms are not improving within the first few weeks after starting this treatment.
Store this medicine in a refrigerator and set the temperature at which this medication does not freeze. Through away, if your medication gets freeze.
Doctors can divide the usual children dosage of this medicine into three parts; the medication’s first dosage is ten units/kg. The second dosage is 15 units/kg, and the third one is 20mg/kg per week.
The dosage may increase by 5mg/kg/week if your doctor found it necessary according to your medical condition.
The maximum single dosage of this medicine is 30mg//kg.

Adagen side effects
Get emergency medical help if you are suffering from an allergic reaction to this medication.
The signs of an allergic reaction are;
- swelling of your lips, face, tongue, or throat
- difficult breathing
Talk with your doctor once if you feel;
- easy bruising
- unusual bleeding (nose, mouth, vagina, or rectum)
- red or purple pinpoint spots under your skin
- pale or yellowed skin
- dark-colored urine
- confusion or weakness
- sore throat
- mouth sores
- flu symptoms
- skin sores or swelling
